DAME’S. Don’t get me started on Dame’s. I was sitting with my roommate talking about food in Greensboro one day, when the topic of Chicken and Waffles came up. We looked up a restaurant and found Dame’s. After asking the rest of our friends if they wanted to come along and experience the flavor explosion that this restaurant consisted of, and after having the agree, we went.

It really was THAT good.

I ordered the “Orange-Speckled Chabo” with a side of Mac and Cheese. When the dish arrived to the table the chicken was tender, crispy and perfectly seasoned with an herbal blend. It was resting atop a sweet potato waffle, drizzled with honey mustard, and served with a “shmear”, basically a flavor-infused butterball: in this case, fresh oranges.

Ordering there is an adventure, as the menu options are recommendations–any substitution you want can be made. Dame’s offers regular, sweet potato, gingerbread, vegan, classic, and blueberry waffles from which to choose. They offer different cuts of chicken, a wide variety of sides, and a full feeling that has been unrivaled in my young life.

As for Shmears: they offer Strawberry-Crème, Chocolate-Hazelnut, Maple-Pecan, Baby-Blueberry, Vanilla-Almond, Orange-Honeycomb, and Peach-Apricot shmears.

The price is a bit on the expensive side, I’ll admit: dinner there can run about $15+ per person. But if you were to ask anyone, it. is. worth. it.

Good news for the RaleighNoms readers: they have a Durham location!

Also, quick tip to those thinking about starting a food blog: don’t write about what has got to be your favorite restaurant in the state of NC before you go to brunch (unfortunately not Dame’s). You will be salivating worse than Pavlov’s dogs.
